Lauren Ditzian Therapy
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist #91189
Hi, I’m Lauren.
Thanks for checking out my website. Here’s a little background about my path to becoming a therapist and some of the life experiences that inform the work I do.
I grew up on the East Coast and studied philosophy in college. I loved the intellectual pursuit of philosophy, but eventually realized that I needed to get out of my head and stop ignoring the body. I wanted my work to be more integrated and representative of this.
I moved out to the West Coast for grad school to study the whole-person approach of Somatic Psychology. My family and I recently relocated to Northampton, Massachusetts. I am currently accepting California clients for teletherapy and will continue this practice while also working on getting licensed in Massachusetts. I will be opening a practice here in the Fall in addition to continuing my work with my California clients. Check back for details!
I’ve practiced yoga for the past 16 years and sat in meditation in Colorado, India, and San Francisco. I have worked as a therapist and a yoga teacher with incarcerated peoples and homeless populations, in rural and urban community mental health, and in private practice with individuals and couples.
I’ve studied a variety of different modalities – Somatics, Sex Therapy, Expressive Art, Drama Therapy, Hakomi, AEDP, EFT – to bring me closer to understanding the scientific basis for attachment and how we create healthy and unhealthy human relationships. I apply this to my clients in an intelligent, insightful, and spontaneous way.
I’ve been a practicing therapist for over 8 years. I offer sessions online for California residents and will soon be opening my doors in Northampton, Mass. I have completed a Sex Therapy certificate program at the California Institute of Integral Studies, because the more I work with people the more I realize that our ability to have healthy relationships and fulfilling sex is foundational to living a full and meaningful life.
When not practicing and/or studying psychotherapy, I love to (among other things) travel the world with my husband and son, make handmade chocolates, and explore our glorious Northern California forests and ocean shores.
Education and Training
I combine my training in somatic psychotherapy, drama therapy, attachment theory-based approaches, and mindfulness-based practices. In addition to my formal education, I consider my own marriage to be one of my greatest teachers of all.
